Ancient secrets, a broken heart and an unexpected meeting. In a remote Latvian parish, near an insignificant bus stop, bus drivers sometimes get strange feelings – a kind of confusion, inexplicable fatigue, one of them sometimes sees a small, shrunken boy on the bus stop bench. The same boy is also seen more and more often by the owner of the nearby houses, Zinta. Gradually, the novel takes the reader into the past – to the time fifty years ago, when Zinta’s little brother disappeared from home.
The complicated relationships in the family affected by misfortune are revealed – the ambitions and deep love of the mother, a respected local doctor Margarita, for her son, as well as her growing indifference towards her daughter. The debut novel of the experienced translator Ilona Ozoliņa-Čiu is kept in the genre of psychological novel with just enough mystery that it only illuminates reality more painfully.
About the author - I live in New York with my husband, two sons and a lizard. Between observing squirrels and sparrows, I translate, teach Latvian at the New Jersey Latvian school and write. Sporadically and randomly, but from the heart since the times of Draudzīgā Aicinājuma Cēsis State Gymnasium and "Aicinājums". I am glad that there is still inside and it also comes out.
