Historical Charm and the Cult of Roses
In the 1930s, Europe was swept by a true garden rose cult. Breeders competed in creating new, magnificent varieties, and gardening became an aristocratic pastime. When the French breeder Meilland created the legendary, full-bloom rose (later known as Gloria Dei), porcelain factories immediately responded to this craze.
Schwarzenhammer craftsmen were among the first to bring the beauty of these new, modern rose varieties to life on fine porcelain. This design was born — with lush, multi-layered flowers that seem freshly picked from a manor garden.
