Brūnais lācis (Ursus arctos) ir lāču dzimtas (Ursidae) plēsīgo zvēru suga, kas sastopama Eirāzijā un Ziemeļamerikā. Mūsdienās Latvijā, īpaši Austrumlatvijā brūno lāci atkal var novērot arvien biežāk. Brūnais lācis ir liels dzīvnieks. Brūnais lācis sver no 100 - 680 kg, tā ķermeņa garums ir 1,7 - 2,8 m, augstums skaustā 90 - 150 cm. Brūnais lācis pamatā ir nakts dzīvnieks. Brūnie lāči kā lielākā daļa lāču ir visēdāji. Tie ēd dažādus augus, ogas, asnus, sēnes, augļus, kā arī gaļu, zivis, olas, kukaiņus un grauzējus. Brūnie lāči nav izteikti plēsīgi, apmēram 90% no barības ir veģetāra. 1

The brown bear (Ursus arctos) is a species of predatory animal from the bear family (Ursidae) found in Eurasia and North America. Nowadays, in Latvia, especially in Eastern Latvia, the brown bear can be observed more frequently again. The brown bear is a large animal. The brown bear weighs between 100 - 680 kg, its body length is 1.7 - 2.8 m, and its height at the shoulder is 90 - 150 cm. The brown bear is primarily a nocturnal animal. Brown bears, like most bears, are omnivores. They eat various plants, berries, sprouts, mushrooms, fruits, as well as meat, fish, eggs, insects, and rodents. Brown bears are not distinctly predatory; approximately 90% of their diet is vegetarian. 1
