Tile from Belgium, by Roger Guérin, Bouffioulx. Marked "Grès Guérin Bouffioulx". Coat of arms with lions in pink and brown, pearl-like gold-tone glaze. Slightly damaged.
Roger Guérin was a Belgian potter from the village of Bouffioulx. He established his workshop in 1918, and around 1945, it was taken over by his son Jules Guérin. Dating is complex: it is generally believed that engraved marks "R Guerin" are earlier, while simple inscriptions "Guerin", some of them
stamped, are from around 1925 onwards. Items marked "Grès d’art R. Guerin Bouffioulx" are most likely dated around 1930. R.
Guérin exhibited his works in Paris in the 1930s and was a member of Société des Grès d’Art de Bouffioulx.
