Wick watering is a method where a plant absorbs moisture through a string (wick). The wick is threaded into the flowerpot, secured, and then covered with soil.

Ideally, it is best to water individually, but unfortunately, this requires a lot of time and effort. Watering mistakes, namely under-watering and over-watering, can cause many problems in plant development and even lead to plant death. Wick watering can be a real helper in such situations and help avoid many problems.

What are the advantages of wick watering when used correctly? In my opinion, the benefits are significantly greater than the drawbacks:

*significant time savings in watering
*depending on the wick reservoir volume, plants can be left unattended for a longer period if you need to leave home
*most plants easily adapt to the transition to wick watering. They grow without stress and do not suffer from minor watering mistakes. This is especially important during the heating season when the air is very dry, as a small pot can dry out within a day
*by choosing the optimal concentration of fertilizer solution, continuous and consistent nutrient delivery to the plant can be ensured
*the plant development processes accelerate, making it possible to obtain a mature and well-developed plant faster
*plant quality improves – flowers become larger, more abundant, and blooming is longer and more frequent, as the plant receives everything it needs
*since nutrients are absorbed from the solution rather than the soil, pots with a smaller diameter can be used. This saves both substrate quantity and pot costs (the larger the pot, the higher the price)

Disadvantages of wick watering:
*if the system is set up incorrectly, there is a risk of root system rot
*in winter, if the plant is on a cold windowsill, the roots may suffer from low temperatures
*if the plant is planted too deeply, there is a risk of root neck and growth point rot
*some varieties are sensitive to excessive moisture, and wick watering is not suitable for them
