Bleakstone was once a thriving metropolis, but a crime wave that swept through the city during the Dark Summer changed a lot in the destinies of its inhabitants. Kra, left without parents, has been living with ravens for eight years. The boy himself wonders how he can understand the language of ravens, as to other people their voices sound like ordinary bird calls. Over time, he discovers that there are other beast-talkers living in the city – those who can communicate with animals and birds. Some of them are good, but some are not. And there comes a time when Kra must confront the power of the menacing spider lord Weaver to save himself, his friends, and the city.
