The dramatic events surrounding the Estonia ferry disaster are recounted in the book Visa to the Abyss by the last investigator of the case – military historian, academic, journalist and writer Marat Kalandarov. The investigation took the author far from the site of the ferry's sinking. During the investigation, highly secret experiments in the army town of Skrunda and mysterious activities in the seemingly peaceful and calm Baltic Sea were uncovered. Marat Kalandarov was warned more than once about the dangers of his research topic, but he became increasingly involved in the investigation. The author died in Moscow, having just managed to hand over to the publisher his second book on the causes of the Estonia ferry disaster: Beyond the Permitted Boundaries... This is the second book – a documentary novel.
