Selling Eduards METUZĀLS's painting "Landscape by the Lielupe" painted in 1961 for 95 EUR. Original.

About Eduards METUZĀLS:

Painter Eduards Metuzāls (1889–1978) was born in Riga, studied at the Riga Decorative Painters Society's evening drawing school and Bernhard Borchert's evening painting courses. In 1910, he emigrated to Western Europe, worked simple jobs, and began painting portraits on commission. Since 1912, Eduards Metuzāls lived in Switzerland. In the summer of 1913, he went to Lugano, met Rainis and Aspazija, and rented a furnished room in the Stella d’Oro house – the same place where the poets lived. In the spring of 1914 in Castagnola, with Rainis present, Eduards Metuzāls married Anna Zandberga. The poet was also the godfather of their only daughter Edīte. In 1974, Eduards Metuzāls wrote in his memoirs: "Thus, quite unexpectedly, my life began in the proximity of the great poet – an irresistibly sincere and simple person. It had an important role in my spiritual and artistic development. Rainis and I could tirelessly talk for several hours at a time, especially on philosophical topics. Essentially, I underwent a whole 'university' with the poet, as our conversations always turned into his actual lectures on various topics."

The artist, both with Rainis and alone, walked the paths to Gandria, Brè, and Mount San Salvatore. The walk was simultaneously a conversation about art, about the emerging figures in Rainis's poetry and drama. And then Eduards Metuzāls painted – these are the places of work and life of Rainis and Aspazija in Switzerland. The artist's works are preserved in the Rainis and Aspazija collection at the Museum of Literature and Music, some paintings can be viewed in the Rainis and Aspazija memorial room in the Lugano city archive premises. In 1921, Eduards Metuzāls returned to Latvia. He participated in exhibitions. His works were discussed – both recognized and denied artistic value. The artist's name is not included in encyclopedic publications, yet both the paintings and pastels have immense informative cultural-historical value. The painting can be viewed in Teika by prior arrangement.
